We are fortunate to live in a time where people are generally living longer, and staying more active than ever before. Although we are more active as we age, our needs in relation to our home environment still change. It starts with small things. Perhaps we aren’t as spritely as we once were; our joints may ache, we may not be able to reach the top shelf in the pantry as easily as before.
At Gubb Design, our passion is to create homes that are customised for the people living in them, and the lifestyle they have. There are many alterations that can make your existing home more comfortable and user-friendly as you age. This includes some obvious things, such as ramps and low-rise stairs. It also includes some things that may not be obvious until you begin to realise that your bathroom taps aren’t as easy to turn as they once were.
A few others (not a comprehensive list, by any means) may be: The thought of getting up out of the bath puts you off having a long, relaxing soak in the tub. Perhaps your kitchen bench is too high and has a sharp right-angled edge rather than a rounded one. When light switches become fiddly, ergonomic light switches are easier to find and press. With vision changes, sensor lights and adjustable brightness make the visual environment easier to navigate.
